Digital Media Intern

Adventure Cycling Association seeks a well-organized, naturally creative, energetic, detail-oriented, and outgoing individual to join its Communication team as an intern for the summer. Qualified candidates enjoy working with video, post-production, and creative personalities. Our organization welcomes over 1,000 bike-touring visitors to our headquarters in Missoula, Montana each summer. This position will work with the Adventure Cycling staff greeting visitors and interviewing them over the course of the summer to create social media output. Using the footage collected over the summer, the intern’s final project will create a short video highlighting the Adventure Cycling visitor experience.

Duties and Responsibilities

Under the direction of the Communications department and other members of the staff

  • Meet, greet, and interview cycling tourists as they come into the office over the course of the summer.
  • Post those interviews on Adventure Cycling’s social media channels with a focus on live or short-term posts like Facebook Live, Snapchat, and Instagram stories.
  • Create a short, end-of-season video highlighting the visitor experience at Adventure Cycling Association.
  • Engage in opportunities to develop original content and concepts for web and mobile.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities 

  • Ability to create and edit videos
  • Share a passion for building communities and understanding a world of micro-content
  • Loves all things digital and understands relevant social media platforms
  • Confident with Instagram Stories and all the latest features and techniques 
  • Working knowledge of Twitter features; video, advanced search, and threads
  • Confident using Snapchat’s Discover feature and Facebook Live
  • Understands how to use hashtags; audience targeting, brand awareness, and monitoring
  • A skilled storyteller and conversationalist in visual and written forms.
  • Has strong research, writing, organizational, and grammar skills
  • Accepts feedback and adapts to new workflows
  • Ability to quickly finish projects, and produce quality products

Software Experience

  • Minimum two years of experience with Adobe Premiere or Final Cut Pro
  • Minimum two years of experience with Adobe Media Encoder 
  • Comfortable with Google Apps suite (Gmail, Calendar, Drive, etc)
  • Experience organizing and editing footage from multiple shoots
  • Working knowledge of After Effects (not required, but helpful) 
  • Experience exporting/rendering projects for different social media channels
  • Minimum two years of experience with Photoshop 
  • Color correction
  • Basic photo editing (cropping, resizing, etc.)
  • Experience creating video for  all social media video platforms  and adhering to required file specifications

Equipment Experience

  • Ability to work on Mac or PC
  • Good knowledge of contemporary cameras, file formats, codecs, and their proper handling in a post-production workflow
  • Ability to set up for basic interview videos, and more complex shots if necessary
  • Some experience using external microphones

Software/Hardware Requirement 

  • Must be able to bring own smartphone and laptop to work
  • Mac or PC capable of running Premiere or Final Cut Pro
  • Access to Premiere and Photoshop
  • Not required but helpful to have access to:
    • Adobe After Effects
    • Adobe Illustrator
    • Adobe Audition
    • Hard drive for transferring footage

Compensation and Workplace

The intern position is compensated at a rate of $11 per hour with a 15-hour work week, plus access to gear discounts offered in our Cyclosource store. Work schedule is during Adventure Cycling's office hours, Monday 9 a.m. - 2 p.m., Wednesday 12 p.m. - 5 p.m., and Friday 12 p.m. - 5 p.m. when traveling cyclists visit our office.
