Adventure Cycling seeks an experienced, energetic, detail-oriented professional to lead the organization’s social media efforts and engage and expand our online community The successful candidate will be passionate about storytelling and have experience with social media to create measurable and data-driven owned, earned and shared strategies. This is a part-time position (20–25 hours a week) from January 15–September 30, 2022.

Key Responsibilities:

The Social Media Manager manages content on our social media channels (Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, Twitter, and LinkedIn) and creates a presence in channels that are deemed relevant to our audience (such as TikTok). Working with the Marketing Director and Digital Marketing Manager, the Social Media Manager will be responsible for growing and engaging an equitable online community The Social Media Manager will help create social media postings and video content.

We are seeking a collaborative who enjoys being creative, and understands how to both build and convert a digital audience. Equally important is ur organizational goal of becoming more just, equitable and inclusive.

  • Annual plan and social media calendar. Build the annual social strategy and calendar, laddering up to the overall marketing calendar, ensuring an integrated approach in support of Adventure Cycling’s communication and program priorities.
  • Content planning for all social platforms. Collaborate with the Digital Marketing Manager, Community Engagement Manager, and Editor in Chief to develop story-lanes, sources, and asset needs for annual content calendar (photography, graphics, copy, video, etc.). Identify trusted media outlets, industry leaders, and influencers to source thought leadership material.
  • Creating and/or curating content. Source and curate organic user-generated content via tags and hashtag mining. Write creative briefs to provide direction to internal and external partners for content creation (design, video production, video editing, etc.).
  • Publishing content for all social platforms. Publish all organic posts, social promotions (e.g., Giveaways, Challenges, Twitter chats, etc.), livestream events, etc. Familiarity with alt text, image descriptions, transcripts, and other tools to make our social media platforms more accessible.
  • Create and execute campaign plans for priority programs in partnership with marketing program lead for awareness and education, program launches and events, member drives, fundraising, etc.
  • Develop and cultivate influencers and social partnerships. Identify and select influencers, repost content, and engage with influencer posts. Partner with the programs team to develop strategy for ambassador and ride leader content cultivation, such as social media takeovers.
  • Establish community management policy for outreach and response. Define process for responding to credible brand mentions in a timely, authoritative way. Collaborate with advocacy, membership, development and outreach teams to implement best practices for leveraging social media communication with industry organizations, corporate sponsors, and philanthropic partners to further our mission and expand our community.
  • Guide best practices for social media, monitor trends, provide strategic recommendations, and track what’s working and what’s not.

Required Qualifications:

  • Proficient in social strategies and best practices to generate awareness, capture leads, foster engagement, and drive conversion.
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication with individuals and teams. Able to collaborate with subject matter experts and translating that knowledge into social campaigns and engagement actions.
  • Proficient at writing engaging short form copy and editing long-form copy to convey a brand message, CTA, and drive an engagement action.
  • Track record of growing and engaging online communities by bringing stories to life across all social platforms. Proven ability to test and scale campaigns to optimize performance and engagement.
  • Passion for following pop-culture and current events. You can identify and jump on relevant real time opportunities, or know when to pause/shift efforts due to major events.
  • Data-driven decision making and excellent analytical skills. Able to extract and analyze campaign data to provide recommendations grounded in best practices, data, and actionable insights.
  • Experience with scheduling tools such as Hootsuite.
  • Highly organized with agile systems to schedule and adjust workflows to changing business needs.
  • Understanding and willingness to engage with issues of institutional and structural racism or bias and their impacts on our organization and community.
  • Commitment to equity and inclusion and to learn and respect differences of race, ethnicity, gender identity or expression, ability, religion and socio-economic circumstances and class.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working in an integrated team. Always brings a point-of-view while being open to learning and input.
  • Ability to find and develop partnerships with influencers and other content creators.
  • Experience in generating earned media through engaging social content or with partnerships.
  • Confidence presenting and providing recommendations to, along with managing expectations of, senior leadership and executive teams. Demonstrates influence to align cross-functional teams and leadership to your vision and plans.
  • A discerning eye and awareness of photo editing trends. Some design skills preferred, and ability to collaborate with the design team to ensure brand consistency across channels.
  • Experience working with people very different from yourself.

Compensation, Schedule and Benefits:

This is a part time, temporary position that will end at the end of our fiscal year on September 30, 2022. We are located at Adventure Cycling’s headquarters in beautiful and bike-friendly Missoula, Montana, and are also open to remote applicants who live in the Mountain West or Northwest Region (WA, OR, NV, UT, CO, ID, MT, WY).
